Anderson Dental

What is the difference between full mouth reconstruction and a smile makeover?

Full mouth reconstruction is about improving the function of your teeth and oral health, while a smile makeover is about improving the look of your teeth. At Anderson Dental, we offer both approaches, and our dentists can help you understand which treatment pathway is best for your specific needs.

Understanding Each Approach

Full mouth reconstruction in Champaign is for people with serious dental challenges. For example, this might be the right treatment for someone with severe tooth decay, extensive tooth damage due to grinding, several missing teeth, or jaw alignment issues. We use a variety of different treatments during this process, depending on the patient’s needs, which may include dental implants, crowns, bridges, and sometimes orthodontics to rebuild the person’s bite function.

Smile makeovers are something different. These are for people whose teeth function well and are in good oral health, but want to change the look of their smile. This also involves multiple treatments, and might include teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental bonding, and/or SureSmile clear aligners to create a dazzling smile. These are generally elective treatments and are not necessarily meant to improve oral health.

Some patients may need or want both types of treatment. We’ll always prioritize restoring function and oral health first, then add cosmetic treatments to polish the results.
